falling in and not to Wall
MARIO BENEDETTI
Between you and me / Mengana mine / rose
a Berlin Wall made of hours deserted
fleeting nostalgia you could not see me because he stood guard outside the bitterness
I could not see because I was dazzled
the sun of your wishes and yet
used to wonder how you would on your expected
if such would open his arms to embrace my absence
but the wall came down it was falling
nobody knew what to do with the misunderstandings were
who brought them together as relics
and suddenly I saw an afternoon
emerge through a hole in fog
and past me without calling me or touch me or
me run to meet another face full of quiet everyday
another face perhaps unaware that among
you and me there existed
a Berlin Wall that we desperately
separate
gathered that wall is now just rubble and more rubble
oblivion.
